Recyling & Refuse

Trash Pick Up                           

The refuse rate will be increasing to $46.00 per quarter beginning with the July 2025 billing, ​this is a three-year bid contract.

Refuse Hauler: ​ Pick N Go Property Waste Services
Thursdays, beginning at 7am
Refuse is limited to six 33-gallon trash bags weighing no more than 40 lbs. each. All
recyclables can be placed together in one container or one CLEAR plastic bag. All
cardboard must be broken down, tied and separated from all other trash and recyclables. Recyclables cannot be mixed with garbage. The Rodman Landfill is strictly enforcing the
Jefferson County Recycling Law. The landfill will not accept and will issue fines to the
Village for cardboard mixed with garbage.

If the above rules are not followed the trash will not be picked up. For questions, please call Pick and Go at 315-783-4122 or the village office 315-639-6260.

When residents or contractors cut down trees within the Village of Dexter, they are
responsible for taking away any and all wood and brush. The wood/brush can be disposed
of at the Brownville Transfer Site. A permit for the transfer site can be picked up at the
​Dexter Village Office during normal office hours, there is no permit fee.

​Green waste permit:
Village residents may obtain a permit in the Village Office to haul green waste, grass clippings, leaves & electronics to the Town of Brownville transfer site.

Spring and Fall Clean Up

​SPRING CLEAN UP, Saturday May 17, 2025, beginning at 7am
The Village of Dexter has two clean up days a year, one in the spring (typically mid-May) and one in the fall (typically mid-September).
​All items must be placed curbside by 6:00am, The truck will stop at each residence one time only.
Limit: 4 yds. Per residence (4 yards=6’ x 6’ x 3’) all items must be either bagged or boxed not to exceed 50lbs each, no exceptions!
Separate weekly trash & recycling from cleanup materials, to include cardboard, regular weekly refuse pickup will remain on Thursday.

Items picked up include but not limited to:
-Small furniture, toilets.
-Paint Cans: With tops removed, any paint must be dry.
-Carpeting & construction debris: must be bundled in 3 ft. Sections
  not to exceed 50 lbs.


* No refuse from outside the Village of Dexter is allowed. 
   Appropriate action will be taken.
Unacceptable waste:
-Yard Debris
-Gaseous Waste, Dead Animals, Hazardous Waste, Infectious Waste,
  Mercury-Containing Waste, Liquid Waste, Medical Waste, Radioactive
  Waste, Pesticides, Chemicals, 
batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, paints,
  stains, aerosol cans.
-Tires
​-Scrap Metal

-Sleep sofas, box springs.
-Electronic devices to include TV’s, computers, monitors, stereos, microwaves etc.

Town of Brownville Transfer Station

The Town of Brownville Transfer Station accepts electronics, rechargeable batteries, leaves, garden clippings, limbs and brush. Residents must have a permit issued through the Village of Dexter Office. There is no fee for the permit and can be picked up at the Village Office during normal business hours.
